The Big Island of Hawaii and Kailua-Kona offers world famous big game fishing all year around for Blue Marlin, Ahi Tuna, Spearfish, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi. Big Island fishing is world famous for calm waters and big fish. The waters are calm since we are sheltered from the trade winds by the twin 14,000 foot mountains of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Deep sea fishing off Kona is found very close to shore. Only a mile out, it is 4000 feet deep, so there is no run to the fishing grounds. We are big game fishing within minutes of leaving the harbor. Both novice and experienced anglers can enjoy our calm waters. We enjoy talking with each of our clients and then customizing their very own fishing experience just for them. While some clients are looking for Blue Marlin (the most sought after big game fish in the world), others might want to target something good to eat like Wahoo or Mahi Mahi.

What can I expect on a Kona Fishing Charter?
Big Island fishing charters can include trolling with heavy tackle as well as light tackle fishing techniques for big game fish. Typically, conditions permitting, we like to begin our charter by catching live bait called ‘opelu” which are small mackerel. We then use these as live bait on light tackle for Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo. We use stand up 30 outfits using 100 lb braid and fluorocarbon leaders. This greatly increases our catch rate and is great fun for our clients. Catching a large Blue Marlin or huge Ahi tuna on light tackle is an awesome experience! Using light tackle and live bait along with proven trolling techniques, greatly increases your odds at catching a nice fish and provides more action for our clients.
Blue Marlin are found in the waters off the Big Island of Hawaii all year around which means every day of the year, there is the anticipation of a huge fish crashing one of the lures! Also, the calm sea conditions, great scenery, humpback whales and other aquatic mammals enhance your Kona fishing experience.
Fishing every day helps us know where “the bite” has been and the best places to find that once in a lifetime fish for you. We excel in using a variety of techniques to catch big game fish. We may troll lures for a while, change over to light tackle and live bait along a ledge or near one of the many FADs for Tuna and Mahi Mahi. There is something for everyone on a Kona fishing charter.
